Volunteers are Helping

Get Involved!

Oyster restoration is impossible without community support and the help of dedicated volunteers!

BOP holds regularly scheduled volunteer days on Governors Island throughout the Spring and Summer. Volunteers work alongside Harbor School students and teachers to build oyster cages, prepare recycled shell for seeding, sort and count baby oysters, and much more. Every volunteer day also includes learning opportunities, Q&A with project staff, tours of the BOP facilities, and if the weather nice we often end the day with oysters from Fishers Island farm on the half shell overlooking the Harbor.

Corporate Volunteer Groups

In addition to public volunteer days, we also partner with companies and organizations to create corporate volunteer days on Governors Island. If you or your organization is interested in working with us, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at restore@nyharbor.org.

Ways to Get Involved

Volunteers can also help out by adopting and monitoring an oyster restoration station, hosting special events, fundraising, or doing any type of community outreach and recruitment on behalf of BOP. If you’re interested, please fill out the sign-up form at the bottom of this page and we’ll be in touch with you shortly!
