What would you like to do?
Oyster restoration is impossible without community support and the help of dedicated volunteers!
BOP holds regularly scheduled volunteer days on Governors Island throughout the Spring and Summer. Volunteers work alongside Harbor School students and teachers to build oyster cages, prepare recycled shell for seeding, sort and count baby oysters, and much more. Every volunteer day also includes learning opportunities, Q&A with project staff, tours of the BOP facilities, and if the weather nice we often end the day with oysters from Fishers Island farm on the half shell overlooking the Harbor.
Corporate Volunteer Groups
In addition to public volunteer days, we also partner with companies and organizations to create corporate volunteer days on Governors Island. If you or your organization is interested in working with us, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at email@example.com.
Volunteers can also help out by adopting and monitoring an oyster restoration station, hosting special events, fundraising, or doing any type of community outreach and recruitment on behalf of BOP. If you’re interested, please fill out the sign-up form at the bottom of this page and we’ll be in touch with you shortly!
There has been a great interest in our volunteer days in which our Spring/Summer dates are booked out!
But don’t fret there will be Fall volunteer dates available that will be released in the late Summer, so stay tuned!
If you have particular interests or special skills you think would be useful to BOP, feel free to share them with us.
