Senior Marketing & Communications Manager

Seasonal Restoration Field Technician (April - October/November)

The Seasonal Restoration Field Technician is responsible for working with members of the Restoration Team and across departments to conduct field activities related to monitoring, maintenance, and data collection across sites throughout New York Harbor, which includes multi-acre restoration sites, Field Stations, and Oyster Research Stations. The Seasonal Restoration Field Technician will primarily collaborate with staff at the Billion Oyster Project, New York Harbor School interns, and public volunteers. The Seasonal Restoration Field Technician supports pre- and post-construction monitoring, data collection, and data analysis at several oyster restoration sites. This position requires experience in planning and completing fieldwork and necessary logistics in an urban marine environment.

Seasonal Remote Setting Technician (Flexible, March/May - October/November)

The Remote Setting Technician works with other Restoration team members to operate and maintain the remote setting facility. The Seasonal Remote Setting Technician’s core tasks will include but are not limited to, assisting the Oyster Production Team with loading structures in and out of setting tanks, acclimating and setting oyster larvae, monitoring the facility to ensure the setting of larvae, caring for spat (juvenile oysters) until deployment, and cleaning tanks and preparing for the following oyster larvae setting event. The ideal candidate is hard-working, has a desire and willingness to learn, and is comfortable working outside in all weather conditions. Seasonal Fabrication Technician (March - October/November)

The Seasonal Fabrication Technician supports the Senior Fabrication Coordinator and Public Volunteer Manager on Governors Island in processing shell and fabricating oyster reef structures for in-water restoration projects, supporting fabrication events for public volunteers and corporate groups, and working with the Fabrication and Volunteer teams to ensure all structures are completed on time. These responsibilities require clear and transparent communication, attention to detail, and collaboration with teams and across departments. The Fabrication Technician will collaborate with staff at the Billion Oyster Project, the New York Harbor School, and public volunteer and corporate groups. The ideal candidate is a quick learner who is capable of working independently. This candidate will be entrusted to produce structures or prepare materials accurately and precisely. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods with a positive attitude

Seasonal Corporate Volunteer Coordinator (March to October)

The Corporate Volunteer Coordinator will lead the execution of corporate volunteer events, while assisting with other projects related to corporate partner engagement. As a member of the Billion Oyster Project Development Team, the Seasonal Corporate Volunteer Coordinator will collaborate with the Fabrication team and corporate partners to engage volunteers in building  towards the mission of Billion Oyster Project – to restore oyster reefs to New York Harbor through public education initiatives. This mission includes restoring 1 billion oysters to New York Harbor by 2030.

Contract/Retainer Role: Videographer

Billion Oyster Project is soliciting proposals from experienced videographers based out of New York City to provide ongoing video capture, editing, and post-production services during the 2026 field season and post-season. The selected vendor will support organizational storytelling, social media content, episodic video series, and partner deliverables.
This engagement is intended to be structured as a part-time contractor on a retainer-based professional services agreement.

Ecological Restoration Engineer

The Ecological Restoration Engineer plays a critical technical role in the planning and implementation of oyster reef restoration projects in New York Harbor. This position works closely with the Restoration Project Manager, Restoration Ecologist, Restoration Implementation Project Manager, and external engineering consultants to review project design from concept through installation. The ideal candidate has strong technical design and drafting skills, understands coastal and ecological engineering principles, and excels at managing consultants and deliverables. This position focuses on design, organizational goals, and constructability considerations in a complex urban and regulatory context.

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

The Billion Oyster Project summer Research Associate Technician Internship program is an exciting way for young adults who have completed high school to explore careers in marine, environmental education and engagement, and non-profit-related fields.

The Research Associate Technician interns will provide support to all the departments of Billion Oyster Project through a specific programmatic focus. See below for the programmatic focuses offered. Interns will also have the opportunity to engage with other departments outside of their focus to gain an understanding of an environmental non-profit. The Research Associate Technician will also be responsible for producing a research project* and presenting said project to Billion Oyster Project staff at the end of the season. As a Research Associate Technician intern, you will fully integrate into the organization, attending and reporting at staff-wide meetings and functions.
