New York Harbor is about to become a classroom. 90-minute voyages aboard NYC Ferry for students and teachers across the city.

Launching for the 2026–27 school year, the Floating Classroom will bring students and teachers aboard NYC Ferry vessels for immersive, curriculum-aligned experiences on New York Harbor. Each 90-minute voyage will use the city itself to explore marine ecology, climate resilience, oyster restoration, and waterfront careers.
Students will experience New York's shorelines, working waterways, ecosystems, and restoration firsthand, while discovering the people and careers shaping its future.
For more than a decade, we’ve seen what happens when students experience New York Harbor firsthand. Science becomes something they can see and participate in. The waters surrounding their city become a place to explore, understand, and ultimately care for.
More than one million public school students live within a few miles of New York Harbor, yet very few have ever had the opportunity to get out on it. We believe changing that is essential to the future of our Harbor. We are introducing a first for New York Harbor. Our Floating Classroom, in partnership with NYC Ferry, is designed to remove one of the biggest barriers to outdoor education: access. And, we're turning the Harbor itself into a classroom for students across New York City.
Our goal is bigger than a field trip. We want an experience on the water to become an entry point into deeper learning, environmental stewardship, and careers connected to New York City's waterfront.
