Harbor Ecosystem & NYC Water Systems
Join Billion Oyster Project to explore our new place-based middle school curricular units! These fully NGSS-aligned units fit within the NYSS Scope & Sequence and include fully editable lesson plans, slide decks, and resources to fit best into your classroom. We will explore the storylines, wear our student hat to do several activities from various lessons, and have lots of time to debrief and plan how to use with your students.
The Harbor Ecosystem unit covers standards MS-LS2-1, MS-LS2-2, MS-LS2-3, MS-LS2-4, and MS-LS2-5, and the Human Impacts on NYC Water Systems unit covers standards MS-ESS3-1, MS-ESS3-4, MS-ESS3-2, and MS-ESS-3-3, therefore making this session most appropriate for middle school teachers. However, Elementary and High School teachers are welcome as this session will also include time to scaffold lessons and resources for learners at different levels.
Check out the Harbor Ecosystem unit (https://www.billionoysterproject.org/curriculum/the-harbor-ecosystem) and/or the unit storyline before the session. Human Impacts unit COMING SOON! We will cover topics including harbor history, geology, underwater ecosystems, the watershed, sewershed, and the engineering design process.
